Double Fishtail Stitched Braid Hairstyle

10:41 hairextensionsfullstop 0 Comments

Do you love fishtail braids as much as we do?  Hope you enjoy this fun, woven variation! This braid has a trendy, bohemian feel to it. You may have noticed how popular fishtail braids (of all kinds) are right now..... demonstrated in a big way at Coachella.

Today our video tutorial is a spin-off of a hairstyle you might remember us posting last year called the "rope stitched fishtail braid." The Princess wears our rope stitched braid quite often to school. We decided to try the hairstyle using a micro fishtail braid instead of a rope braid recently, and actually ended up loving it even more than the original, so of course we wanted to share it with you!
As shown in our video tutorial (below) I stretched the outside edges of our braid slightly to make it  look fuller and thicker. But if you prefer more of a disheveled or effortless looking braid, you can deconstruct the edges of the larger fishtail as much (or as little) as you want, to achieve the perfect state of "messiness" for your liking.

However messy or sleek looking you decide to make this braid, we just love the unique look of the small fishtail braid weaving in and out of the larger fishtail, sort of like a "peek-a-boo braid" effect.

As you can see, we chose to create this braid in a ponytail for our tutorial. I was actually planning on making a side braid, but it ended up looking kind of awkward on our "plastic patty" since she doesn't have shoulders for the braid to rest on hahaha! For a more "grown up" look, you can make a low side braid or center braid without using an elastic at the top (if you prefer it over a ponytail.)

Supplies needed to recreate this braid:
  • 1 medium size elastic
  • 1 small elastic
  • Alligator clip or similar (optional)
  • Fairly long hair

Easy everyday curly hairstyle tutorials – the curly side braid

Easy everyday curly hairstyle tutorials – the curly side braid

This curly side braid is your everyday curly hairstyle solution. It’s quick to do and will stand up to any weather too.
One of the reasons I started braiding my hair was that I didn’t have time to wash my hair in the morning. I would do anything for a few extra minutes in my warm bed before work.
So if you need some motivation to learn to braid, then this curly side braid hairstyle will help you to get more time in bed.
Plus you can save time washing your hair. I mean, who has time to wash their hair every day? I don’t even recommend everyday washing as it is too drying on most hair types.
Instead, wear an easy updo or braid to keep your hair out of the way. My everyday curly hairstyle tutorial series is your second day time-saver.

If I had to choose, I’d say my favourite braid in curly hair is the Dutch braid. That’s the reverse of the French braid, sometimes called an inside-out braid. I love how Dutch braids add detail in curly hair.
Today’s tutorial could convert me back to the French braid. It’s really quick to do and it’s such a fun style. This curly side braid tutorial is easy for all hair types: straight, wavy or curly. Anyone can do it.
If you’re not confident with braids, check out these tips for braiding curly hair and grab a copy of my braids ebook to learn all the basics with step-by-step tutorials.

Easy everyday curly hairstyles – the curly side braid tutorial

What you need:

  • Small clear hair elastic (or one to match your hair colour)
  • Bobby pin

Step-by-step tutorial:

To create the side ponytail, we’ll angle the French braid diagonally across your head from the top left to the bottom right.
If you prefer to wear your ponytail on the left side, just start your braid from the top right.
  1. Take a large section of hair to start your braid. I take a section from the top of my head to my left temple. Split this into three equal sections.
  2. Begin your French braid, adding in hair from both sides. Cross the left section over the middle, then the right over the left. As you cross over the next section, add in hair from the left side. Continue, adding in hair to the next section from the right and so on.
  3. Remember to aim your braid diagonally. When you reach your neck, secure your hair in a side ponytail.
  4. Cover your elastic. Take a small piece of hair from your ponytail and wrap it around your elastic. Wrap the end around a bobby pin and secure in place underneath.

You’ve asked for more picture of the front of my hairstyles too. I get pretty awkward taking photos of my face but I hope this helps you to understand the styles better.
I used the volume from my curly hair to shape the front. If your hair is sitting flat you can gently backcomb the hair to add some extra height.
    Hairstyling tips:
Embrace messy hair. You don’t need to be perfect when braiding curly hair. It’s practically impossible to take neat and exact sections so work with your curls.
Pay attention to accessories. Accessories can really add to a style. Chunky elastics can really detract from the look. I recommend buying some small, clear elastics for these styles. They are practically invisible in the finished look and make a big difference. I like these Lady Jayne ones and if you’re in the US, try these ones.
How to stop the slip: if you have layers or your hair is too soft and keeps slipping from the braid, I have the solution. My favourite styling powder solves the problem. Sprinkle a little on your hair or any layers that are poking out. Then push them back into the braid. This powder makes them stay put. I love it.

I hope you liked this tutorial. If you did, please pin it on Pinterest or share it.

11:47 hairextensionsfullstop 0 Comments

A cute and easy elastic ponytail!

Hey guys! Our hair tutorial this week is the "reverse pull-through braid." This is a variation of the standard "pull-through braid" which has been a popular and trendy braiding / ponytail technique floating around on Pinterest, YouTube, and Instagram recently.

If you have not seen the original braid, linked below are a few video tutorials to check out from some of our friends and fellow hair vloggers (which show how to make the original braid as a ponytail and as a French braid.)

How To, Curling Wand Curls

21:48 hairextensionsfullstop 1 Comments

Our hair tutorial this week shows how to create gorgeous spiral curls using a curling wand.

"The Princessss" has been wearing these curls quite often to school lately.  She loves that these curls will last 2 days with minimal time spent doing her hair on the second morning!  On the third day, we usually use the leftover curls to make a cute updo or textured braided style.

We are loving the modern look of these wand curls.  In my opinion, the curl pattern ends up looking much more natural than a standard curling iron ringlet.

We used the smallest attachment (19mm) in our NuMe "Curl Jam Set" for this tutorial, as the Princess prefers tighter curls. But, if you are wanting loose curls, or waves (which are so popular right now) you can use the same technique we used in our video (below) with a larger barrel instead.

Lace Braid Rose Hairstyle For Long Hair

21:43 hairextensionsfullstop 0 Comments

An Elegant Braided Updo Featuring Braided Roses

If you follow us on Facebook you may have seen a photo of this hairstyle (which was actually done on a mannequin head) posted last week.  We have noticed this beautiful hairstyle floating around on Pinterest, and Instagram quite a bit lately.  We have also received several requests, so I thought we would give it a try!

This hairstyle is really not that complicated as long as you know how to lace braid, although it is a little more time consuming than some of the styles we have done.  You will probably need to give yourself 15-20 minutes to complete all of the braiding and pinning. Since this hair style is so lovely, romantic, beautiful, and feminine, I would say the extra time is definitely worth it! Anytime I see braided flowers (or roses/rosettes) in someone's hair, it always looks so pretty.  You really can't go wrong with braided roses!

I'm thinking this style would be great for many special occasions such as: a wedding, flower girl, prom, homecoming, church, recital, communion.... you get the idea!

Supplies Needed:

  • 2 small clear elastics
  • 1 medium sized clear elastic
  • 2 clips or cloth covered elastics to temporarily hold the ends of the braids
  • Several bobby pins (we used miniature bobby pins from Sally Beauty Supply.)
  • Comb or brush
  • Hair spray (optional)
  • Fairly long hair

Twisted Edge Fishtail Braid Hair Tutorial

11:40 hairextensionsfullstop 0 Comments

A fishtail braid... with a twist

Hey guys! Our video tutorial this week is on a fun variation of the ever popular and trendy fishtail braid, which we are calling the "twisted edge fishtail."

We love that this braid tends to hold up quite well and would be perfect for school, work, sports, and other occasions.

The basic idea and inspiration for this braid came from a combination of several techniques which we have shown in past videos:  A "feather braid" a "scallop braid" and of course, a "fishtail braid."  Unlike the scallop braid, we chose to remove just one strand at a time from the fishtail, while keeping these strands closer to the original braid as they are added back in.  This is what creates the twisted pattern along both sides of the braid.

I'm loving the illusion of how thick this braid makes the Princess's slightly fine hair look.  So pretty!  Of course, if you wanted an even thicker looking braid, you could stretch the strands along both sides of the braid, which would give the braid even more dimension and "puffiness."

Like most fishtails, this braid is a little more time consuming than some braids, but really not too bad.  I would plan on about 5-8 minutes to complete your braided ponytail (although this will depend largely upon the length of hair you are working with.)

If you so desire, this braid can also be wrapped up into a bun, forming a beautiful patterned updo.

Supplies needed to create this style:

  • 2 hair ties/elastics (1 for the top of the braid, and 1 for the bottom.)
  • Water, gel, hair wax, pomade (etc.) to help control flyaways.

How to Make Your Hair Look Good

14:16 hairextensionsfullstop 1 Comments

Obsessed with taking selfies? Hey, it’s ok (we are too)! What’s not ok though, is if your hair is looking decidedly dire in them! Read on for our tips on how to make your hair look good  and never experience a bad selfie again.

How to make your hair look good : Tip #1
The first step in how to make your hair look good in photos is to tame any unattractive frizziness or flyaways. You might think your locks look fine in the mirror but any camera that lands on you will pick up every last wafty hair. To combat those dreaded wispy strands, take a smoothing serum such as the Tigi S Factor Dream Drops (our fave), rub between your palms and then gently smooth over the crown of your head and any areas which are prone to flyaway strands.

How to make your hair look good : Tip #2

If you want your hair to look like perfection personified in photos, you need to find a happy medium on the volume front. The camera can be harsh, so it’s best to avoid beauty pageant style volume which makes your hair bigger than your head. Our advice? If you have fine hair, prep your locks with the Tigi Bed Head Style shots Epic Volume Shampoo and Conditioner before having your photo taken. This duo is sure to plump up your tresses without creating an 80’s style helmet ‘do. If you’re lucky enough to have thicker tresses, opt for a smoother and sleeker hairstyle to avoid any photo mishaps - Kim Kardashian should be your hair selfie role model here!
How to make your hair look good in photos: Tip #3
Hairspray is an absolute must have for a night out, but did you know that overdosing on your beloved can result in stiff and unnatural looking tresses? Once you’ve achieved your perfect ‘do, don’t spray until it’s completely rigid - be a little more frugal with your spritzes. Hair that has movement will always look better in photos than overstyled and overworked locks. For powerful hold without the stiffness, we recommend the Tigi Bed Head Rockaholic Fun Times Flexible Hairspray which will ensure your style stays locked in place but with plenty of natural movement.
So, now that you know how to make your hair look good in photos, we’d love to see your selfies! Hashtag your Dirty Looks hair extension selfies with #dtylooks on Instagram so we can see how you’re styling your HK’s. Don’t forget, if you share us, we’ll share you!

7 REASONS YOU NEED COCONUT OIL IN YOUR BATHROOM

13:39 hairextensionsfullstop 0 Comments

Coconut Oil has become so popular in the last few years we have all heard of it’s Health Benefits. But do you know the cosmetic benefits? Discover how this amazing, natural product can replace items in your bathroom that you never thought you could survive without!
1) Moisturising Hair Treatment
OPTION A – LEAVE IN: Coconut oil can be applied to dry/frizzy hair to tame, moisturize and detangle. Use a very small amount, spread in hands then apply to towel dried hair (as it spreads easier on damp hair) avoiding the roots and concentrating on mid lengths to ends.
OPTION B – WASH OUT: Apply a generous amount of coconut oil to all your hair and massage into scalp. You want to do this on a day when you are due to wash your hair and try to leave it in as long as possible – i.e all day when home cleaning or overnight. By leaving it in you are also benefitting from the oil’s anti-fungal and antibacterial properties – which is great for dandruff, psoriasis and eczema. Massaging your scalp increases circulation and blood flow to the area promoting healthy cell renewal. A MUST-DO step if you desire long healthy locks. Shampoo 1-2 times then condition as normal, you will love how shiny and soft your hair is!
2) Face and Body Moisturiser
Next time you use your moisturiser check out the ingredients! Does your moisturiser make your skin feel and smell great, but feels dry only a little while later? Or burns if you have just shaved? Do you notice that your skin is so dry it appears white or flaky on the days you don’t use it? Lots of the ingredients are potentially harmful chemicals and are used as either preservatives, dilutants, perfumes or to correct colour/consistency of the moisturiser.
Coconut oil can assist in the healing of wounds, soothe dry/itchy skin conditions and is very effective at reducing water-loss in the skin. Have a shower and whilst your skin is still damp use it all over your body as it spreads better and avoids excess usage.
3) Makeup Remover
Waterproof Eyeliner, Mascara, Sticky Lipgloss, False Eyelash Glue…are no longer a problem to remove thanks to coconut oil! No more scrubbing, stinging or panda eyes – Simply apply coconut oil to face and wipe away with cotton balls! HOT TIP – You can also CLEAN your eyeliner & lipstick brushes with coconut oil on a bit of paper towel before washing them.
4) Shaving Cream…or Shaving Oil
Frustrated by shaving cream that just washes off when water hits it in the shower? Try coconut oil! It stays on despite the water and provides a moisturising barrier to achieve a close, ingrown-free shave!
5) Cuticle Oil & Manicure Moisturiser
You may have noticed by now with all this coconut oil use, that your nails are appearing healthier and stronger, and the skin on your hands is benefitting too! That’s because just like your hair and skin, your nails are absorbing the moisture and strengthening too! So next time you are doing mani’s and pedi’s – use coconut oil instead of your usual cuticle cream and hand moisturiser. Your hands and feet will feel amazing and smell great!
6) Coffee Scrub & Sugar Scrub
With all this moisturising going on you probably hadn’t thought of exfoliating with coconut oil! It is so easy to make your own scrub and give your hands, feet and body a luxurious scrub at home that feels as amazing as a Day Spa!
COFFEE SCRUB has also become a very popular product used to reduce stretch marks and cellulite. Try it at home using ground coffee and coconut oil. Mix and massage to desired areas and wash off to reveal soft, moisturised and renewed skin.
SUGAR SCRUB is great using Raw Sugar but you can use any type you like. Mix with coconut oil and scub away – great for removing dead skin cells off areas like heels and hands. You can add essential oils for aromatherapy purposes. But never use fragrant oils and be sure to use the correct amount.
7) Mouthwash
Yes, You can use coconut oil as a mouthwash. It is known as oil pulling and literally consists of swishing coconut oil around in your mouth for 20 minutes. Many “oil pullers” have reported amazing results, with teeth whitening followed by reduction in cavities at the top of the list of benefits. Your dentist may not have heard of it, as most seem to be shocked when their patient informs them that the dramatic improvement in their teeth is due to coconut oil!

The X Celebrity Plastic Surgery

12:52 hairextensionsfullstop 0 Comments

We scoured the web to find the best before and after celebrity plastic surgery shots. From  droopy eyelids to botched implants, these celebs range on a scale of scary to completely unrecognisable.
JANICE DICKINSON – This former model admits she lives for surgery and loves her enhancements. Now she is a model for what-not-to have done and is scaring young girls away from plastic surgery around the world.

JOCELYN WILDENSTEIN – Did you know that Jocelyn is a pilot? Nope, neither did we. We also cannot locate any earlier pictures of her, but we assume it’s due to her becoming famous thanks to these plastic surgery blunders!

PETE BURNS – Taking surgery to the extreme is an understatement for musician Pete Burns. We don’t know if he intends on completely transforming into a woman… or if this is a side effect of all the work he has had done.

VALERIE LUKYANOVA – Another celeb made famous due to her plastic surgeries, Valerie is human barbie. She claims that barbie looks like her, although from her before picture you can see much less of a resemblance..

MICHAEL JACKSON – The late MJ remains a musical inspiration all over the world. One of the biggest icons in the history of music, Michael was also one of the biggest names in the media. From changing his skin colour to his nose falling off, this is definitely one man who took his surgeries too far.

Hair is the most facet entity of human persona and women love to admire themselves. In order to fulfill their wishes and desires, they go to the extreme.
